This workshop introduces users to the Preschool Early Literacy Indicators (PELI) assessment. The PELI is a storybook-embedded assessment of essential pre-literacy and oral language skills needed for kindergarten. The assessment is designed to identify children who are experiencing difficulties acquiring these skills with intent to provide the instructional support needed to improve future reading outcomes. The assessment is designed for preschool and pre-kindergarten students (ages 3-5). PELI measures alphabet knowledge, vocabulary and oral language, phonemic awareness, and listening comprehension.
This workshop provides training on the foundations and research behind early childhood literacy and oral language development, how to administer and score each of the measures, and logistics of assessment. Extensive practice activities are included.
PELI is in early release for the 2018-2019 school year. While PELI is in early release, sites need to complete some additional requirements before registering for training. You can read more about the PELI Early Release requirements here.
